Hurghada City Tour

4 Hours

Hurghada city tour takes you beyond the hotel strip to see how the town lives. With a private guide and air-conditioned vehicle, you visit El Mina Mosque and a Coptic Orthodox church, walk through the fruit and vegetable markets and bazaar of El Dahar, see the fish market and finish with free time at Hurghada Marina. The tour lasts about four hours with hotel pickup.

Important information

  • Dress code: Shoulders and knees should be covered at the mosque and the church. Women are asked to cover their hair inside the mosque, so bring a scarf.
  • Prayer times: The mosque cannot be visited during prayers. Your guide plans the visit around them, and on Fridays around midday the order of stops may change.
  • Shoes: You remove your shoes before entering the mosque.
  • Walking: The tour includes short walks on busy streets and in markets. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • Shopping: Bargaining is normal in the bazaar. There are no commission shopping stops on this tour; buying anything is entirely up to you.
  • Photography: Ask before photographing people, especially in the markets and places of worship.
  • Children: Children aged 0–3 travel free and children aged 4–11 pay half the adult price.

Who is this tour for?

This tour suits travelers who want to see the town behind the resorts and learn about everyday life, religion and food in Hurghada. It works well for couples, families, solo travelers and anyone looking for a short, easy outing on a non-beach day.

It is less suited to travelers looking for ancient sites. For pharaonic history, the Luxor Day Trip from Hurghada or the Cairo and Giza trips are the better choice.

Full tour overview

Hurghada began as a small fishing village, and the older districts of El Dahar and Sakkala still feel very different from the resort coast. Many visitors never see them. This tour gives you a few hours in the town itself, with a local guide to explain what you are looking at.

After hotel pickup, your guide takes you first to El Mina Mosque, the largest mosque in Hurghada, which opened in 2012 on the waterfront next to the marina. Outside prayer times, you can go inside to see the prayer hall and its decoration, and your guide explains the customs of the mosque.

Next you drive to El Dahar, the old town, to visit a Coptic Orthodox church and learn about Egypt’s Christian community. From there you walk through the fruit and vegetable market and the bazaar, where you can browse spices, textiles and souvenirs.

The tour continues to the fish market, where the day’s catch from the Red Sea is sold, and ends at Hurghada Marina. You have free time to walk along the waterfront, look at the boats and stop at a café before you are driven back to your hotel.

The tour suits travelers who want a break from the beach and a sense of everyday life in Hurghada. It involves some walking and a respectful dress code at the mosque and church. For history on a larger scale, look at the Luxor day trip or the Cairo trips from Hurghada.
