Cairo Day Trip from Hurghada by Plane

1 Day

Cairo day trip from Hurghada by plane replaces twelve hours of driving with two short flights. Your own Egyptologist guide meets you at Cairo airport and takes you to the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple, then to the Grand Egyptian Museum after lunch, finishing with a walk through Khan El Khalili before your evening flight back. Flights, private transport, entry tickets and lunch are included.

Important information

  • Passport required: You need a valid passport to board domestic flights in Egypt. Please send each traveler’s full name and passport details when booking so the flights can be issued.
  • Flight schedule: Flight times change with the season and are confirmed 24 hours before travel. If a flight is delayed, the guide adjusts the order or length of the visits; the final stop may be shortened.
  • Hand luggage: Bring only a small day bag. Airport security applies on both flights.
  • Private on the ground: Your guide and vehicle in Cairo are private to your party. The flights are regular scheduled flights shared with other passengers.
  • Walking and heat: The plateau, the museum and the bazaar all involve walking. Shade is limited at Giza, and midday temperatures are high from May to September.
  • Optional extras: Entry inside the pyramids and camel or horse rides are paid separately. Agree on any price with a camel or horse handler before you get on.
  • Children: Children are welcome. Because airline fares apply, child prices are confirmed at booking.

What to bring?

  • Valid passport (required for the flights)
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • A small day bag suitable for airport security
  • A light jacket for the early morning and air-conditioned flights
  • Egyptian pounds in cash for extra tickets, shopping and tips
  • Light clothing that covers shoulders and knees

Who is this tour for?

This trip suits travelers staying on the Red Sea who want to see the pyramids and Tutankhamun’s treasures without a night on the road. It works well for couples, families, older travelers and anyone with a short holiday who wants the comfort of a private guide and vehicle.

It is less suited to travelers on a tight budget, since flights make it more expensive than the road trip, or to anyone without a passport on hand during their holiday. For a lower-cost option, see the Cairo and Giza Pyramids Day Trip from Hurghada.

Full tour overview

Cairo is about an hour’s flight from Hurghada, compared with around six hours by road. Flying lets you see the capital’s main sights in one day without a night departure, and leaves room for a part of Cairo the road trip usually skips.

After an early pickup, you are driven to Hurghada Airport for a domestic flight to Cairo. Your Egyptologist guide meets you on arrival, and from there the day is private: your own vehicle and guide, with no group to wait for.

The first stop is the Giza Plateau. You see the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, stop at the panorama point for a view of all three, then visit the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre. After lunch at a local restaurant, you continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the guide leads you through the highlights, including the Tutankhamun galleries.

In the late afternoon, you head into Islamic Cairo to walk through Khan El Khalili, the city’s historic bazaar, before transferring to Cairo Airport for the evening flight back to Hurghada.

It is still a long day, starting before dawn and ending late in the evening, but far less of it is spent travelling. It suits travelers with limited time, families and anyone who wants a more comfortable way to see Cairo. If budget matters more than time, the Cairo and Giza Pyramids Day Trip from Hurghada by road costs less.
