Hurghada Quad Bike Desert Safari

4 Hours

Quad bike safari takes you from your Hurghada hotel into the desert behind the coast, where you drive your own automatic quad in a guided convoy. After a safety briefing and test ride, you head out to a Bedouin village for tea and a short camel ride, then ride back to the station. Choose a morning or afternoon session, with about three hours in the desert.

Important information

  • Driving age: You must be 16 or older to drive a quad. No licence or previous riding experience is needed.
  • Children: Children under 16 cannot drive. For a desert trip with younger children, the Jeep Safari is a better choice.
  • Health and safety: Quad riding is not suitable during pregnancy, or for people with back or neck problems or recent injuries. Helmets must be worn throughout, and the guide sets the speed and spacing of the convoy.
  • Riding conditions: The route crosses sand and uneven rocky ground, so the ride is bumpy and dusty. Riders who drive recklessly or leave the convoy may be stopped by the guide.
  • Shared group: You ride with other travelers in a guided group.
  • Weather: Strong wind or sandstorms can delay or cancel a session. Midday sessions in summer are very hot, so morning or afternoon is the better choice from May to September.
  • Pickup: Free pickup covers Hurghada, Sahl Hasheesh and Makadi Bay; El Gouna, Soma Bay and Safaga are available for a supplement.

What to bring?

  • Long trousers, to protect your legs from the sand and the engine
  • Closed shoes or trainers
  • Sunglasses or goggles, and a scarf to cover your nose and mouth from dust
  • Sunscreen and a hat for the village stop
  • A light jacket for afternoon sessions in winter, when the desert cools quickly after sunset
  • Cash for goggles, a scarf, photos or tips

Who is this tour for?

This safari suits travelers aged 16 and over who want a few hours of active, hands-on adventure during a beach holiday in Hurghada. It works well for couples, friends and teenagers travelling with their parents, including people who have never ridden a quad before.

It is not the right choice for families with younger children, people who would rather be driven, or anyone with a condition that makes a bumpy ride uncomfortable. The Jeep Safari is the better option for them.

Full tour overview

The desert starts only a few kilometres inland from Hurghada’s hotels. Behind the coast, sandy plains and rocky valleys run toward the Red Sea Mountains, and a quad bike is one of the quickest ways to get out into that landscape for a few hours.

After hotel pickup, you are driven to the safari station at the edge of the desert. The guide explains how the quad works, fits your helmet and lets you try a short test ride before the group sets off. You then follow the guide in a convoy across the sand, keeping a safe distance from the rider in front.

Halfway through, the group stops at a Bedouin village. You can sit down for a glass of Bedouin tea, look around the village and take a short camel ride. After the break, you ride back to the station and are driven to your hotel.

The quads are automatic, so you do not need riding experience, but you do need to be 16 or older to drive. The ride is dusty and bumpy in places, and you control your own speed within the convoy.

The trip suits travelers who want to drive rather than sit as a passenger. If you prefer to be driven, or are travelling with younger children, the Jeep Safari is a better fit. For a longer evening with several vehicles, dinner and stargazing, choose the Hurghada Super Safari.
